| The Basics: Author: Sustainable Buildings Industry Council URL: www.sbicouncil.org Date: 2004 Notes: At a Glance: The SBIC is a non- profit group that promotes a "Whole Building" approach when constructing buildings. The Council recognizes that home that are constructed in energy-efficient and sustainable ways need to be maintained by homeowners who understand how to continue to make their living space low-impact. The Council has published a book of guidelines encompassing site planning, waste management, energy efficiency, renewable energy, indoor environmental quality, and most uniquely, maintenance of the original design and intention of the structure. Best for: This resource is aimed at professional home builders, however, homeowners should be aware of what they can do to maintain their green residence, and a few chapters here address these questions. Standout Features: This publication is the product of extensive collaboration between the Department of Energy and the SBIC.The book also includes software. Keep in Mind: This is a technical guide intended for homebuilders somewhat familiar with the topic of sustainable building. Suggested by: efoss |
