Quick Hit guides are another way to delve into the resources available on this wiki. They are more than just a subset of resources: they may compare resources to one another, recommend the order in which the resources be read, or even describe the needs of a particular community (e.g., vegetarians) and how the resources that are spotlighted help meet those needs.
We'll need more guides, so please feel free to peruse those already compiled and then create one, or improve the ones listed above.
To create a new Quick Hit guide follow the procedures outlined below:
- Click on the "Add a new page" link in the Page Toolbox on the right-hand side of the wiki.
- Select the "Quick Hit Guide" template from the drop-down menu.
- Name the page based on the type of guide, using the A XX's Guide to Going Green convention. For example, A Vegetarian's Guide to Going Green, A Homeowner's Guide to Going Green, A Student's Guide to Going Green, etc.
- When writing text for each heading, begin writing on the same line as the heading.
- For the "Compiled by" heading, use your Wetpaint username and link it back to your Profile page. To do this, type your username after "Compiled by:" highlight it, click "link" in the EasyEdit Toolbar, and paste the URL of your Profile page in the link box. Save the link. Now people will be able to tell who created the guide!
- In the Manage Page toolbox on the right-hand side of the screen, choose "Move Page" and move page to Quick Hit Guides page, maintaining alphabetical order based on the title of the guide.
- Choose "Create Page" and fill in the template information. Resources should be listed in alphabetical order.
- Add keyword tags to guide by clicking on the "edit keyword tags" link in the yellow-green box at the bottom of your resource's page. Choose tags to enter based on nature of your guide, and make sure to also include the following tags: quick hit, guide, resource list. So, for example, A Cheapskate's Guide to Going Green is tagged with cheap, budget, money, quick hit, guide, resource list; A Beginner's Guide to Going Green is tagged with beginner, quick hit, guide, resource list.
- Consider posting a link to the guide in your Profile.
- Add a link to your guide (with a sentence describing the aim of the guide) to the bulleted list on this page.
And remember, if you get stuck, add whatever content you can and post a message to the discussion forum saying you are stuck and someone else can help move the page to the appropriate page or insert images...
