The Basics:
Title: Ecotravel News: An environmentally friendly resource for the latest on ecotourism
Author: Lisa Tae-Ran Schroeder
URL: http://ecotravelnews.blogspot.com/
Date: Copyright 2007

Notes:
At a Glance: This freelance journalist-written blog is an extremely opinionated digest of ecotravel news from myriad news sources such as the New York Times, Budget Travel, and the Christian Science Monitor.

Best for: Those looking for a quick hit of what's getting covered without having to actually seek out all of the many different publications covering travel and the environment.

Standout Features: Schroeder scours the environmental news in both specialty and mainstream publications, provides scathing and/or laudatory commentary, and provides links to the original articles so you can decide for yourself. In a ballsy if self-destructive move for a freelancer, she doesn't pull punches when a story in a prominent publication lauds a leisure travel activity that many environmentalists believe is destructive. She's an equal opportunity decrier.

Keep in Mind: It is a blog; the attraction is the sharp commentary, but the real news is only in the links to the original articles. It's a new blog, started in August 2007, so time will tell if it's sustainable. The author clearly states on the site that "The newspapers, magazines and other news sources, as well as the journalists quoted, have no input or influence on ecotravel news' content. I am soley responsible for the content and do not receive incentives for writing about any particlular topic, place or business." Good to know, but if only she had spell-checked!
