My goal for this project was to find resources that gave people the tools necessary to "go green" on both an individual and local/regional/global level. Low Impact Living, Greener Choices, and Green Seal all offer practical and reliable information to help consumers achieve their environmental goals in their households and in daily life. Women's Earth Alliance, Green Corps and the World Wildlife Fund all encourage environmental participation on a larger scale. Resource #1 Low Impact Living Title: Low Impact Living Author: Low Impact Living, Inc. (Jason Pelletier and Jessica Jensen, Founders) URL: www.lowimpactliving.com Date: 2006 - 2007 (continually updated) Why I chose this source: Low Impact Living is a new and rapidly growing website aimed at helping consumers lower the environmental impact of their homes and lifestyles. As well as being educational, this site lists green products, practices and service providers to help achieve environmental goals. Resource #2 GreenerChoices.org Title: Greener Choices Author: Consumer’s Union (the non-profit publisher of Consumer Reports) URL: www.greenerchoices.org Date: 2003-2007 (continually updated) Why I chose this source: Greener Choices was created to address the lack of credible, in-depth information on green products, services, and lifestyles on the internet. Consumer's Union has over 70 years of experience presenting in-depth, comprehensive consumer advice. The site offers reliable, useful information in five product categories—Appliances, Cars, Electronics, Food, and Home and Garden as well as information on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, electronic waste, and energy use. Resource #3 GreenSeal.org Title: Green Seal Author: Green Seal, Inc. URL: www.greenseal.org Date: Organization started in 1989, no date on website Why I chose this source: Green Seal Certification ensures that a product meets rigorous, science-based environmental leadership standards. This gives purchasers confidence that certified products are better for the environment and distinguishes a product from its less environmentally friendly competitors. Resource #4 Women's Earth Alliance Title: Women's Earth Alliance Author: Melinda Kramer, Founder and Director URL: www.womensearthalliance.org Date: 2005-2007 Why I chose this source: Women's Earth Alliance envisions a world in which grassroots women environmental leaders around the world exchange best practices, definine shared agendas, and collectively enact a global shift towards environmental and social justice. My bleeding heart just loves it! Resource #5 Green Corps Title: Green Corps Author: Green Corps: Field School for Environmental Organizing URL: www.greencorps.org Date: Organization started in 1992 Why I chose this source: This site is proof that grassroots work can make an environmental diffrence. Resource #6 World Wildlife Fund Title: World Wildlife Fund Author: World Wildlife Fund URL: www.worldwildlife.org (US site) http://wwf.org (portal to WWF international sites) Date: 2007 Why I chose this source: The World Wildlife Fund works to correct issues in terrestrial, marine, and freshwater realms, on global, continental, ecoregional, and local scales. This organization provides an easy way to "get involved" and support the environment.
